2020 TCA Department 56 JAX Convention

The Train Collectors Association (TCA) was founded in 1954 in Yardley, PA. Annual conventions have traditionally been held during the first week of June at a designated location. The 2020 Convention was planned in conjunction with Department 56 and the local Department 56 collector club. This was the first time that a TCA Convention was held in partnership with another organization. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the convention was cancelled.

When considering souvenirs for the gathering, the committee wanted items that would appeal to both train and Department 56 collectors. The consensus would be for a water tower from Department 56 and a train car from Lionel. Each would feature the respective logos of the sponsors.

The two water towers are tailored versions of Snow Village Water Tower (OSV- #6005467) and have a total production run of 300 pieces between the two of them. The “Regular” convention item is a closed edition of 212 pieces and features a cream-colored porcelain tank with accents of navy blue. The “Banquet Edition” is a closed edition of 88 pieces and features a navy-blue porcelain tank with a cap and tower accented in gold. The base of the latter has a gold plaque designating it as a “Banquet Gift From TCA Southern Division”.

After the convention was cancelled, 20 of the Banquet Editions were given to volunteers and the remainder were individually purchased by TCA members. Both editions have four decals representing Department 56, TCA, the TCA Southern Division, and Naval Air Station Jacksonville. The towers stand 11” tall with a 5’x4” base. Both are packaged in traditional Department 56 Styrofoam encased in custom white sleeves with black writing.

The 153 box cars are navy blue with two panels on each side. Each one is accented with a with a daytime/summer and nighttime/winter scene showcasing the previously retired Lionel Electric Train Shop (OSV- #54947) as well as complimenting ones featuring a daytime and nighttime panel of the Jacksonville, FL skyline.
